Immigration Deputy Public Defender Andrea Garcia’s Judicial Support and Unmatched Legal Experience in Both Federal and State Litigation, Public Defense, Private Practice, Academia, Set Her Apart in Riverside County’s Judicial  Race and Could Make Her the First Latina Elected to Superior Court in Riverside County’s History.

 

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, Calif. — Andrea Garcia, candidate for Riverside County Superior Court, is receiving the most support from members of the judiciary in this race as voters consider who is best prepared to serve on the bench. The third candidate, Jennifer Loflin, who did not make it past the primary has thrown her support behind Garcia. 

 

Garcia’s runoff election kickoff fundraiser is set for September 10 at a private residence in Riverside, CA. 

Garcia’s legal career spans public defense, private practice, federal and state litigation, legal education, and small-business ownership—experience that gives her a comprehensive understanding of the justice system and the people who rely on it.

 

Garcia has served as a deputy public defender in both of the Inland Empire's large Public Defender’s offices as an immigration attorney, a role created to uphold state and federal constitutional guarantees per landmark Supreme Court decisions and state law. 

 

She is also the only candidate in the race with litigation experience in both federal and state courts, providing her with experience across different judicial systems and from multiple perspectives inside the courtroom.

 

That breadth of experience has earned Garcia support from across the legal community—including community and elected leaders, veterans, teachers, small business owners, defense attorneys, former Riverside County prosecutors, and members of the judiciary.

 

Garcia also brings experience outside the courtroom. She is the only candidate in Riverside County’s judicial race with experience running a small business, providing a firsthand understanding of the challenges facing working families, entrepreneurs, and small-business owners who interact with the courts.

 

Garcia has taught law school, allowing her to examine the law beyond the traditional adversarial courtroom setting and to approach complex legal questions from an objective and analytical perspective. 

 

Garcia has also been certified as a specialist in Immigration and Nationality Law by the State Bar of California since 2015. 

 

She states: “As a third-generation Mexican American from the Midwest, I grew up with the values of curiosity, critical thinking, hard work, respect, and humility—values I have carried throughout my career and will certainly bring to the bench.

 

A judge must always be willing to listen, learn, and serve the community with an open mind. Judges communicate every day with people who may not have attorneys or understand legal language in superior courts that resolve legal disputes beyond criminal law but in family, civil, probate and juvenile, so they must be clear, patient, and respectful.”
